5-Star Reviews:

“Our hero is the well known, wealthy, smokin’ hot, brain surgeon – Dr. Drake Morgan (“Dr. Delish”) by day, but he’s also, the dominant, sensual, Master D by night. He likes control, bondage & his women submissive. He is an expert at compartmentalizing his life & never, ever, mixes love with sex… That is, until he meets Kate McDermott – the daughter of his late father’s best friend – who he had only heard stories about, but never met. When he finally meets her at a fundraiser, he only knows one thing – he has to have her – but he also knows that because of his lifestyle, it can never happen. She’s too innocent & he’d never forgive himself for corrupting her. And, what if her father found out????

Kate is a grad student, currently working as a pop culture writer for a newspaper. She is conducting research on the up & rising world of BDSM. Of course, her curiosity in the lifestyle has everything to do with her article & absolutely NOTHING to do with with any personal interest that she may have… Or at least, that’s what she keeps trying to tell herself. Through some series of events, she finally meets up with the Dom who will show her all she needs to know about BDSM for her article. However, she never, in a million years, would have guessed just who her Dom would turn out to be…..

This is probably one of the best books I’ve read in 2013 & I’ve read some really fantastic books this year, so far. The characters are well thought out & written. The storyline will have you anxiously turning pages to find out what happens next. Don’t let the fact that this author has only written PRN, so far, in her career fool you. Her CR writing is just as good, if not better than her PRN. Please note, that this book is a contemporary romance with BDSM elements & is NOT a BDSM romance, although, that’s what Drake tried to make it……… Did he succeed? Only one way to find out!”

Oh I hated the best friend. This was a great read, and I’m glad I got this book. I just read a really heavy Dom book, so I was a little thrilled that he was a baby Dom. Great characters, interesting plot!

Synopsis: Kate McDermott is a graduate journalism student writing a research paper. She’s chosen to write about the world of BDSM and tries to convince herself that her interest is purely intellectual. She has contacted a real-life Domme in order to get some information. The Domme has agreed to set her up with a Dom who can “instruct” her in the ways of a D/s relationship. Enter Dr. Drake Morgan, or “Dr. Delish” as he’s known. Kate’s met Drake at a fundraiser given by her father, a high-powered state judge. She’s also been warned against getting involved with him by her meddling and judgmental friend. Imagine her surprise when he turns out to be the Dom she’s supposed to use for her research…there’s no way she could work with this man who is so close to her father. Kate is mortified that Drake is aware of her interest in the subject, but Drake pursues her relentlessly, and a relationship inevitably ensues.

My thoughts: I don’t want to give too much away here, so I’ll let you read the rest for yourselves. Suffice it to say that the road travelled here is hot, hot, hot! Ms. Lund knows how to write a sizzling scene, and there’s no shortage of those. I found a nice balance of sex and plot though. As Kate and Drake struggle to reach their HEA (no surprise there, this is a romance after all!) there are seemingly endless roadblocks thrown up. What I really liked about this story was that the roadblocks were not always set up by the characters themselves as they play out all of their anxieties. Sure, they have some hang-ups like everyone else, but all in all these two are likeable and believable characters. Although I’m sure the inevitable comparisons will be made to Fifty Shades I found this story to have an entirely different feel. Sure, they are both stories about a high-powered man and a younger woman exploring a D/s relationship, but for me that’s where the similarity ends. Kate is no virginal, underprivileged Ana and while Christian Grey would scare the crap out of me, Drake is someone I’d love to get to know (wink, wink). As the story drew to a close I found myself with tears in my eyes (yeah, I know I’m a wuss) and that’s the mark of a great book for me. I truly got in Kate’s head and felt her pain and her eventual joy. Some great secondary characters and relationship development rounded out the story for me.

I’d be remiss if I neglected to share one of my favourite quotes from a letter Kate reads in preparation for her research. It’s written by a Dom to his sub:

“I’ve known every part of you – every naked inch, inside and out.
I can’t wait to bind you with my soft leather restraints and make you cry out my name as you come, again and again. Then, I will really kiss you, smothering your moans with my mouth…”

Can’t you just feel it? I know I did… I couldn’t put this book down! Highly recommend.

What happens when Lust, Sexuality, Devotion crashes head-on with Love, Submission, & Dominance? Like the powerful drug LSD, your life may not be completely under your control. That look across a crowded bar, a warning from a friend, finding out your fantasy is real, discovering your sexual cravings need more, and finding out you can’t keep all the facets of your life in the tiny compartments on a sectioned food plate.

Meet Kate McDermott, young journalism student and daughter of a wealthy, prominent judge running for the Senate. Escaping the career plans her dominant father has for her as a political journalist, and managing her career on her own terms, Kate decides to tackle the popular topic of the BDSM lifestyle. Enter Dr Drake Morgan, neurosurgeon, bass player, philanthropist and Dom – the son of her father’s best friend. Through an agreement, Drake is Kate’s guide into the lifestyle, tasked to show her the ropes so to speak, but he notices far more in Kate’s behavior than Kate is willing to admit to. Like a spark to kindling, what follows is a combustible, erotic, journey of discovery, and unplanned love.

This book was very enjoyable; the primary characters were well-developed, interesting and believable. The supporting cast, although not as fully developed, helped to tie the story together. The story had humor, emotionally touching moments, good musical references, and hot sexual tension. Unlike many of the current popular books these days, this story has no cliff hanger, is complete in one novel, and provides a satisfying realistic HEA.

The author did a very nice job in weaving the D/s elements of the BDSM lifestyle into the story in an erotic, tasteful fashion, never letting the sexual side of the story dominate the overall plot of the book.

A controlling alpha male, handsome accomplished, a true renaissance man! A young woman trying to live the feminist way! They’re brought together, unknowingly, by her father, and that is where this story begins. Kate thinks she can’t be with Drake because her friendship with a scared woman will hurt him. Drake doesn’t mix sex with romance, but he will do anything to have her. S.E. Lund takes us into the Dom/sub world while bringing this couple’s story to the forefront. Explaining that one doesn’t have to give up their ideals to explore their sexuality, or their loving relationship.
